Resources for Learning Campaign

15 Million Campaign to support Rochester’s students and struggling learners!

In the latest statistics regarding Rochester students-in-need, numbers speak louder than words.

Rochester’s Rump Group reported that 69% of “at risk” Rochester City School District students – incoming seventh through ninth graders -- need academic support.

43% of all students in grades K-5 have been retained at grade level at least once.

In 2003 alone, more than 9,000 inmates booked through the Monroe County Jail had not completed high school -- incarcerating those dropouts costs Monroe County $8 million annually.

Perhaps these numbers speak the loudest of all --according to the Alliance of Excellent Education, a 1% increase in high school graduation rates would save approximately $1.4 billion in incarceration costs!

The Norman Howard School and EnCompass: Resources for Learning know these numbers speak volumes, that’s why we are taking action. EnCompass was founded as a direct response to The Norman Howard School’s ongoing commitment to community outreach. For more than 25 years, the Norman Howard School has specifically devoted its educational resources to students, families, teachers and agencies facing the challenges of learning disabilities. The School fundamentally believes that all students can learn. More than 2,300 students have reached their true potential because of the Norman Howard School’s unique, experiential learning opportunities.

EnCompass’ strengths-based, holistic approach to providing innovative educational services to students struggling to learn and the families, schools and institutions that support them has proven to be an invaluable community resource – a resource that needs continuous financial support to grow. On behalf of the young people who directly benefit from The Norman Howard School and EnCompass, The Resources for Learning $15 million Campaign will help expand existing programs, launch new ones, fund scholarships, and build an endowment for both The Norman Howard School and EnCompass.

Although The Norman Howard School has achieved so much, there is more work to be done. Experiencing the increased demand for services and programs from its constituents, The Norman Howard School plans to establish a new K-4 school to address the needs of students that struggle early on in their academic careers. To fulfill the mission of both The Norman Howard School and EnCompass, The Norman Howard School Foundation is firmly established to ensure the life-changing programs are responsive and available to meet the diverse needs of people of all ages who simply struggle to learn or who have been diagnosed with a learning disability today and tomorrow.

By working together, our actions will certainly speak louder than words! Students with different abilities will be supported in a way that makes a tangible difference in their lives. Please consider supporting The Resources for Learning Campaign.
